Sales of sexy lingerie have surged by more than 50 per cent since the start of the recession, figures show.
According to popular department store Debenhams, fishnet stockings, suspenders, basques and cleavage-boosting bras are all selling at a “record rate”.
The surge in sales has been attributed to increased unemployment rates as thousands of British couples are now rediscovering the benefits of a good night in.
Wickedelic Lingerie has also seen sales of sexy lingerie grow during the “much- hyped” credit crunch, especially its Polish brands of Livia Corsetti and Chilirose.
Customer services manager Nik Grant said: “We all know that staying in is the new going out and what better way to survive the recession and keep spirits high than with nights or days at home filled with love and tender romance.
“Sexy lingerie is a great investment and an inexpensive way to treat yourself, and your partner.”
